Kentucky Announces Children's Choice Awards: Congratulations to our Winners
The Votes are counted and the 2009 Kentucky Bluegrass Awards Winners are:
- Dogku by Andrew Clements and Tim Bowers, selected by K-2 readers
- Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney, selected by 3-5 readers

Youth Media Awards Coming Soon
On January 23 in Denver Colorodo, the Youth Media Awards will be announced at the American Library Association meeting. These awards include the Caldecott and Newbery Medal winners and Coretta Scott King Book Awards. 2009 National Library Week Grant

Brian Selzick Coming to Kentucky
Brian Selznick, author of the 2008 Caldecott Award for The Invention of Hugo Cabret, will be the featured guest for the 2008 Kentucky Bluegrass Awards luncheon on Friday, September 26. The luncheon takes place at The Kentucky Reading Association Conference at Louisville's Galt Hotel. Registration is open at http://tmcshows.com/KRA/Registration/
The KBA luncheon is considered a special event and there is a $10 fee. Only registered attendees will be invited to attend. There will be a limited number of tickets sold so register for the conference todayBrian Selzick Coming to Kentucky
KRA Members Accept Leadership Positions at International Reading Association
Dr. Janice Almasi, Carol Lee Robertson Endowed Professor of Literacy at the University of Kentucky, has been elected to the IRA Board of Directors for the 2008-2011 term.
Dr. Brenda Overturf, President of the Kentucky Reading Association and Chair of the Graduate Reading Program at University of Louisville, has been appointed to the IRA Governmental Relations Committee by incoming President, Dr. Barbara Walker.

The Kentucky Bluegrass Awards' voting deadline is at midnight on Friday, April 4, 2008. All participating schools and libraries must submit votes online at www.kyreading.org or call 859-622-1072. Winners will be announced the week of Monday, April 14, 2008 along with the 2008-09 master lists. The American Library Association announced their most prestigious awards for children's literature.
- The 2008 Caldecott Medal winner is The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick (Scholastic Press, an imprint of Scholastic). The 2008 Honor books are Henry's Freedom Box: A True Story from the Underground Railroad by illustrated by Kadir Nelson, written by Ellen Levine (Scholastic Press, an imprint of Scholastic); First the Egg, written and illustrated by Laura Vaccaro Seeger (Roaring Brook/Neal Porter); The Wall: Growing Up Behind the Iron Curtain, written and illustrated by Peter SÃs (Farrar/Frances Foster); and Knuffle Bunny Too: A Case of Mistaken Identity, written and illustrated Mo Willems (Hyperion)
- The 2008 Newberry Medal winner is Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Voices from a Medieval Village by Laura Amy Schlitz (Candlewick). The 2008 Honor books are Elijah of Buxton by Christopher Paul Curtis (Scholastic); The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt (Clarion); and Feathers by Jacqueline Woodson (Putnam).
- The 2008 Printz Award is The White Darkness, by Geraldine McCaughrean, published by HarperTempest, an imprint of HarperCollins has won the 2008 Michael L. Printz Award
